Metal for construction sharply rose in price in Russia

Price increase recorded for the first time since the beginning of the year

In Russia, at the end of January, an increase in prices for certain types of construction rolled products was recorded against the background of a general decrease in the price of metal products. The data of the Rusmet agency is reported by Kommersant.

Over the week, some items rose in price by 25–445 rubles per ton. The cost of I-beams reached 82,120 rubles per ton, electric-welded pipes — 58,320 rubles, water and gas pipes — 58,250 rubles. The growth was recorded for the first time since the beginning of the year.

The rise in price occurred against the background of a decrease in prices for cold-rolled and hot-rolled coils.

The surveyed market participants attributed the discrepancy in dynamics to the increase in metallurgists' costs, the limited supply of individual items, and the preparation of buyers for the construction season.

In January-February, there is a stabilization of domestic prices for rolled products for construction purposes after a long period of decline, added Alexander Semin, Director of the Center for Economic Forecasting at Gazprombank.

But he expects an increase in demand for these products only in March and April — with the beginning of the revival of construction activity, at the same time a slight increase in prices is not excluded.
