A new method of fraud has been recorded in Russia, in which criminals distribute malicious applications while posing as employers. With their help, scammers try to install software on Russians' devices.
The criminals impersonate company representatives and suggest using programs allegedly for work purposes. The attackers send links to download files containing malware. Examples of such files include WBwork.apk and YandexTracker.apk.
The functionality of the malware is quite extensive. It allows criminals to collect data about the victim's device. The attackers gain access to information about the device model, operating system version, SMS messages, contacts, and the call log in real time.
In addition, the malware allows smartphones to be controlled remotely. Law enforcement agencies urge Russians to remain vigilant and not download applications from unfamiliar sources.
