A tender has been launched in Sverdlovsk Region for the design and construction of the country’s first factory for the serial production of full-cycle microwave microchips. This was reported by the region’s governor, Denis Pasler.
According to him, the enterprise must be ready by the end of 2027. The planned capacity will be up to 2 thousand silicon wafers per year.
The enterprise will produce microwave electronics used in satellite and mobile communications systems, radar and telecommunications systems, unmanned vehicles, automotive electronics, and so on.
The Telegram channel "Russkoe oruzhie" clarified that the future plant’s products could be used in transmit-receive modules of radar stations for air defense and aviation.
Specifically, this may concern microwave transistors for transmit-receive modules both for multi-purpose radars of the Gamma-D type, the 96L6-CP multi-mode radar for programmed surveillance / target designation / illumination as part of the S-350A "Vityaz" air defense missile system, or the Yenisey multi-function radar as part of the S-500 / S-400 air defense missile systems, as well as for the N036 "Belka" airborne radars of Su-57 fighters.
It is not yet known whether the enterprise will specialize in transistors based on gallium nitride or gallium arsenide, the channel’s authors added. These technologies are considered key to modern radar and radio communications.
