Russian T-90M "Proryv" tanks are mainly subjected to attacks from the rear section, where important systems are located. This was reported by a senior driver-mechanic with the call sign Ishmai.
According to him, the "mangals" provide good protection against attack drones, although they sometimes take a large number of hits in a single sortie.
The enemy usually aims at tanks from behind, trying to hit the radiators so that the vehicle stops and boils over. If from the front, it tries to hit the EW station. In any case, you have to drive fast; any delay is bad. We arrived, did the job, and left.
It should be noted that the cooling radiators on the "Proryv" cannot be completely covered with heavy armor — a constant airflow is required for the engine to operate normally.
A drone strike in this area leads to depressurization of the cooling system and overheating of the power unit, which deprives the tank of mobility and turns it into a target. Therefore, crews attach great importance to protecting the radiators.
Earlier, "Pervyi tekhnicheskii" wrote about tank protection in the shape of a dandelion, having found it in the depths of FIPS. Practice and theory moved in the same direction, and the method proved successful in countering drones.
