A replica of the historic ship "Phoenix" of project RP1809 was laid down in St. Petersburg

The vessel will receive the Ice3 ice class and a fully automated power plant

A ceremony was held at the production site of the Sudostroitelnoe Proektnoe Biuro to lay down a replica of the historic sailing-motor vessel "Phoenix" under project RP1809. Construction is being carried out under the technical supervision of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS).

Representing the Register at the event were Deputy Director General Andrei Fasolko and Deputy Director of the Baltic Branch Sergei Demin. They noted that the project is being implemented as part of efforts to preserve maritime heritage and develop modern yacht construction with regard for historical traditions.

The designer was the company "Forss Tekhnologii". All technical documentation passed review at the RS Main Directorate and received a positive conclusion. A team of specialists from the Register's Baltic Branch will monitor the progress of construction.

Brig "Phoenix" 

The new vessel is classified as a passenger sailing-motor yacht and will receive the class notation KM⍟ Ice3 (hull) / Ice1 (machinery) / R2 AUT3 Passenger yacht (Motor-sailing), confirming its ability to operate in difficult ice conditions and its compliance with high automation and safety requirements.

The original cruising sailing vessel "Phoenix" was in service in the fleet from 1787 to 1803.

  • In 1787, the vessel was purchased by Russia in Greece and entered service with the Black Sea Fleet.
  • The brig took part in the war with Turkey of 1787-1791, including the battles of Fidonisi and Cape Kaliakra.
  • In the war with France of 1798-1800, "Phoenix," under the command of Lieutenant L. F. Morskoi, was used as a transport vessel.
  • In 1801 and 1802, the brigantine sailed between the ports of the Black Sea.
  • In 1803, "Phoenix" was under the command of Lieutenant S. S. Karachinskii at the port of Nikolaev.
  • After 1803, it was dismantled in Nikolaev.
