Tank Protection Against Drone Strikes From Above Developed in Russia Without Blocking Hatches

The crew will maintain mobility thanks to folding screens

Russian engineers have developed a new dynamic protection module for the upper hemisphere of a tank turret, capable of protecting the crew from attacks by high-precision weapons and drones. The utility model combines a lattice frame fixed on the turret and dynamic protection, which is installed on adjustable struts.

The frame is made of two parts with folding mesh screens above the commander's hatch and the gunner's hatch. The screens are held by stoppers, so they can be easily folded back when the crew enters or evacuates. In the open position, the commander will be able to fire at aerial targets from an anti-aircraft machine gun.

According to the idea, this design increases the survivability of the vehicle and simplifies the work of the crew, even if the module is damaged.

Previously, heavy metal screens required complete removal of the grilles during repairs, blocked hatches, and limited the use of weapons. The new module solves these problems - the mesh screens are easily removed, and the frame and dynamic protection provide maximum coverage of the turret.

Installation is carried out in stages. First, the frame is assembled, transport lugs and mesh screens are installed, then the struts are fixed to the turret with tightening screws and the frame is fixed to the adapters. The module is stored in the transport position disassembled, ready for installation before combat operations.

Earlier, a new method of protecting equipment from drones was invented in Russia, based on the principle of constantly operating blades. They should literally chop drones in half and throw them to the side.
