Russian airlines are waiting for domestic aircraft - the queue is growing

Industry can't keep up with demand: 900 applications, but mass production has not yet been launched

Despite growing demand, Russian airlines are facing delays in the supply of domestic aircraft. According to Marianna Galagura, a representative of Ural Airlines, all major carriers in the country are showing significant interest in purchasing Russian-made aircraft, but the industry has not yet moved to mass production.

Currently, about 900 applications have been submitted for new machines, with Aeroflot taking the lead in the queue. According to Galagura, it is difficult to predict when the queue will reach other airlines, including Ural Airlines — she believes it will probably not happen soon.

As previously noted, in the face of ongoing sanctions and growing passenger traffic, Russian airlines have been forced to step up the program of mothballing aircraft. According to information provided by the Rostec State Corporation, by the beginning of 2026, 10 out of 12 domestically produced aircraft planned for return have already been restored and transferred to operators.

Thus, despite the partial replenishment of the fleet through mothballed aircraft, a systemic shortage of modern domestic aircraft remains an acute problem for the industry.
