Zaporizhzhia NPP Restores Power Supply via Second High-Voltage Line

Power supply stabilized by restoring the "Ferrosplavnaya-1" line

On January 19, 2026, at 19:17 local time, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant resumed power supply via the "Ferrosplavnaya-1" high-voltage line. This was reported by the press service of Rosatom State Corporation, citing a statement by Director General Alexei Likhachev.

Previously, since January 2, 2026, the "Ferrosplavnaya-1" line had been disconnected due to the activation of automatic protection, and the entire load for providing power to the cooling systems fell on the only remaining line — "Dneprovskaya."

Likhachev emphasized that operating a nuclear power plant with only one external power supply line is associated with increased risks. In the event of its emergency shutdown, the plant will be forced to switch to backup diesel generators to maintain the operation of safety systems and reactor cooling.

Repair work on the "Ferrosplavnaya-1" line began on the morning of January 18. Likhachev expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Russian Foreign Ministry, the leadership of the IAEA, as well as personally to the Director General of the agency, Rafael Grossi, for their assistance in organizing the maintenance of the station.
