Footage of Russian tanks with unusual protection in the form of unraveled ropes has gone viral online. This find is actually effective in conjunction with other structures, including "mangal" grills, according to tanker Vladimir Ovcherov.
According to him, tanks come from the factories already with "mangal" grills. In combat units, additional protection is also made, based on experience.
For example, like dandelions made of steel ropes, fluffed at the ends. It happened that while performing a task, they caught up to 20 FPVs. [FPV drones, ed. note] You just hear explosions. It's comparable to hitting a piece of iron at high speed: something banged and smoked somewhere.
Ovcherov also disagreed with the opinion that the time of tanks on the battlefield is over.
They will come up with effective REBs, means of destroying FPV drones, and tanks will be feared as they were 100 years ago. We'll meet in 5 years, and you'll see that the tank will once again be the main weapon.
As a reminder, "The First Technical" already wrote about tank protection in the form of a dandelion in November 2025, finding it in the bowels of the FIPS. Practice and theorywent in the same direction, the method proved successful in countering drones.
