The Russian tank's "dandelions" caught 20 kamikaze drones at once

A tank crewman confirmed the effectiveness of protection in the form of fluffed-up cables on the combat vehicle's hull

Footage of Russian tanks with unusual protection in the form of unraveled cables has gone viral online. This solution is in fact effective in combination with other structures, including "cope cages," tank crewman Vladimir Ovcherov said.

According to him, tanks arrive from factories already equipped with "cope cages." Combat units also add extra protection based on operational experience.

For example, like dandelions made of steel cables fluffed out at the ends. There were times when, while carrying out a mission, we caught as many as 20 FPVs. [FPV drones, editor’s note.] You just hear the explosions. It is comparable to hitting a piece of metal at high speed: something popped somewhere over there, and smoke appeared.

Ovcherov also disagreed with the opinion that the era of tanks on the battlefield is already over.

They will come up with effective EW systems, means of defeating FPV drones, but tanks will be feared just as they were feared 100 years ago. We will meet again in 5 years, and you will see that the tank will once again be the main weapon.

Let us recall that "Pervyi tekhnicheskii" in November 2025 already wrote about tank protection in the shape of a dandelion, having found it in the depths of FIPS. Practice and theory moved in the same direction; the method proved successful in countering drones.
