A fraud scheme in the modernization of rocket engines for Roscosmos was uncovered in Russia

The contract concerned the RD-0124A and RD-0146D engines; a KBKhA contractor was sent to a penal colony

The Voronezh Regional Court issued a ruling in the case of Erkin Parpibaev, founder of the Moscow Region-based OOO "Strategiya," over abuses committed in the execution of a state defense order for the Chemical Automatics Design Bureau (KBKhA), which is part of the Roscosmos structure. The court sentenced him to 4 years in a general-regime penal colony; the convicted man was taken into custody right in the courtroom.

The criminal case is connected to a 2020–2021 contract for the reconstruction and technical re-equipment of the pilot production of the RD-0124A and RD-0146D rocket engines, as well as the KBKhA test-stand base.

The contractor undertook to carry out construction and installation work, commissioning work, and equipment supply. The value of the contract amounted to nearly 35 million rubles.

The investigation established that after receiving an advance payment of 10 million rubles, Parpibaev diverted 7 million rubles to the benefit of OOO "Bazisenergosnab," which he controlled, under the guise of purchasing cable products. Law enforcement agencies classified the actions as abuse of authority in the fulfillment of a state defense order.

It is worth recalling that the RD-0124A and RD-0146D engines are used in rocket and space technology to place payloads into orbit.
