Starting January 9, 2026, fines for tinted windows violations for drivers of temporarily imported cars will come into effect in Russia. The amount of the fine is 500 rubles.
The changes have already been enshrined in Article 12.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. These rules apply to cars imported from abroad for personal use for a limited time.
Previously, the requirements for light transmission of car windows were formally tied to the technical regulations of the Customs Union of 2011. Now, checks will use the norms prescribed in the Basic Provisions for the Admission of Vehicles to Operation, which relate to road safety.
The new rules allow drivers with documents for temporary import of a car for up to six months to be held liable. These cars can be temporarily imported without registration with the traffic police.
At the same time, the requirements for light transmission remain the same. The windshield and front side windows must transmit at least 70% of light.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russia will toughen responsibility for the absence of a child seat in a car.
