Footage of the possible use of advanced weaponry by the Russian military has gone viral on the Web. Presumably, it is a medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) "Oreshnik," said military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
According to him, the visually visible approach speed may exceed 5.5 Mach, which is higher than the official characteristics of "Oreshnik."
The speed at the end of the active section in the thermosphere can reach 23-25 Mach.
Judging by the footage, this is the second use of the MRBM without a special nuclear part, simply put, with metal blanks. Six warheads struck the target.
Rocket engineer Alexander Vasiliev explained that at a speed above 5-6 Mach, the kinetic energy reserve of the "Oreshnik" warheadexceeds the energy of the explosive that can physically be placed in the hull. With such overloads, the explosive could occupy no more than 25-30% of the mass.
It should be emphasized that the Ministry of Defense has not officially commented on the footage on the Web and has not made an official statement on the use of "Oreshnik." The launch of the MRBM wasconfirmed once - November 21, 2024.
