Rosaviatsiya is actively discussing the possibility of opening southern airports in Russia with the Russian Ministry of Defence. A decision on this issue has not yet been made, Rosaviatsiya head Dmitry Yadrov said.
The agency maintains constant contact with the Ministry of Defence regarding the large-scale opening of southern airports, but at the moment no specific steps have been taken. The top priority in this process remains passenger safety.
At present, the operation of some airports in southern and central Russia is restricted. This concerns cities such as Anapa, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Rostov-on-Don, and Simferopol. At the same time, after the introduction of restrictions, the airports of Elista, Gelendzhik, and Krasnodar resumed operations.
Rosaviatsiya has maintained employment levels at 10 southern airports and at air hubs in the central part of the country at no less than 90% compared with January 1, 2022. Yadrov noted that all Russian airports temporarily closed since 2022 remain ready to resume operations.
