No One but It: The An-124 "Ruslan" Is the Only Aircraft in the World Transporting Satellites

Volga-Dnepr keeps the transport aircraft airworthy

In global aviation, there remains a very narrow class of cargo for which there are still simply no alternatives for transportation. For example, in the case of Elektro-L series weather satellites, the An-124 "Ruslan" transport aircraft is the only transportation option, Volga-Dnepr airline reported.

That is precisely why the measures the carrier is taking to maintain the airworthiness of the Ruslan fleet are so important.

This concerns both the training of technical specialists, the availability of Russia's only full-flight simulator for the An-124-100 aircraft, and the transfer of knowledge to the younger generation. All this allows us to offer logistics solutions for technically complex and high-tech cargoes in the aerospace, energy, oil and gas, and other industries.
Vladimir Kaldin, Commercial Director of Volga-Dnepr airline

In addition to air delivery, the airline's specialists organized the documentation and packaging of the cargo, provided cranes on the airport apron for safe loading, and coordinated access for all the customer's necessary personnel to the airport grounds.

It should be noted that new Ruslan transport aircraft are no longer being built in Russia. Aviation expert Oleg Panteleev explained to Pervomu tekhnicheskomu that resuming production of 50-year-old aircraft is an pointless idea.
