The Sevmash enterprise, part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), has successfully completed the production and delivered to the customer the first main thrust bearing intended for the Project 22220 nuclear icebreaker "Leningrad".
The bearing was developed by the Sevmash design bureau and is accompanied by a special testing program prepared by the company's specialists. Its dimensions are impressive: a height of 2.5 meters and an assembled weight of about 25 tons. According to the company, this is the largest industrial and technical product in the history of the plant.
Three such bearings are required to equip one icebreaker. The remaining two, intended for the "Leningrad", are scheduled to be shipped in early 2026.
In parallel, Sevmash continues to work on similar products for the next vessel of Project 22220 — the nuclear icebreaker "Stalingrad". Currently, all blanks have already been cut from metal and have undergone preliminary machining. More than 20 divisions and workshops of the enterprise are involved in the project, which emphasizes the scale and complexity of the production process.
