As of January 1, 2026, a law has entered into force in Russia allowing advertising to be placed on space objects, including launch vehicles and satellites. The document was signed by President Vladimir Putin.
The amendments were made to the law "On Advertising" and to regulatory acts concerning the state corporation "Roskosmos." The advertiser must conclude a contract with the owner of the space object, its holder under the right of economic management or operational control, or with an organization representing the interests of the state.
In the case of federally owned objects, the contract is executed in compliance with antimonopoly legislation. Advertising on space objects must not create threats to the safety of space activities or affect the reliability of launches and the operation of equipment.
Roskosmos has been granted the right to provide services for the placement of advertising, as well as for its production and distribution on objects owned by the state corporation.
It is worth recalling that advertising precedents in the Russian space industry have already existed: in 1992, the logo of a tobacco brand was placed on the "Proton-K" rocket; in 1996, a Pepsi commercial was filmed on the Mir station; and in 2001, cosmonauts on the ISS took part in filming a Pizza Hut commercial.
