Self-propelled gun "Koalitsiya-SV" closed from drones from above: new protection patented

New technical solution will reduce the effectiveness of the cumulative jet

In Russia, a sectional screen of additional protection has been developed and tested for self-propelled artillery guns, designed to counter drones, ATGMs and cumulative ammunition. The solution was created at the Burevestnik Central Research Institute and implemented on the 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV self-propelled artillery gun.

It was proposed to make the structure from expanded metal 4 mm thick with a cell of 90 mm. When installed on the hull and turret, a clearance of 105 to 340 mm is provided.

According to the plan, such a removal shifts the detonation point of the ammunition and reduces the effectiveness of the cumulative jet, including damage from above — the most vulnerable zone of modern armored vehicles.

The screen consists of unified sections, fastened with bolted connections to brackets and struts welded to it. It covers the upper hemisphere, sides and stern of the turret, while not restricting the operation of the gun, machine gun module, sighting devices and communication equipment. For access to ammunition and maintenance, hinged hatches are provided, and above the crew hatches — movable sections that do not interfere with evacuation.

A separate advantage is compatibility with means of electronic warfare. The screens have platforms for installing antennas and electronic modules. If necessary, the sections are quickly dismantled for passing the railway gauge "1-T" and transportation.

Let us remind you that the Koalitsiya-SV is capable of firing Krasnopol-D shells to a range of up to 65 km. The howitzer was built on the T-90 tank platform.

Earlier, the Military Academy of Logistics named after General of the Army A. V. Khrulev patented a new type of special equipment — lightly armored water-alcohol tanker.
