Farmers Tighten Belts: Demand for Machinery Falls for Second Year in a Row

The industry is sounding the alarm due to the unavailability of combines

In 2027, the situation in agriculture will continue to worsen. This forecast was shared by Andrey Sizov, General Director of the SovEcon analytical center.

According to him, the recycling fee is just one of the changes in the industry. Not only have the volumes of machinery purchases decreased, but there are also other costs for agribusiness, and this trend will continue next year.

The financial reserves that existed, the fat that had been accumulated in previous decades, is coming to an end. We are seeing a catastrophic drop in the sale of machinery. And not only machinery, but also seeds, plants, and fertilizers. The manufacturer is tightening its belt as much as possible, starting to save wherever possible.

Arkady Zlochevsky, President of the Russian Grain Union, also emphasized that the decline in production is due to the collapse in demand for machinery.

Because there is no money to buy it. There is no money, nothing to buy. They [tractors] are not being bought. [The factories] have stocked-up sites with machinery - thousands of unsold combines, thousands of tractors.
Arkady Zlochevsky, President of the Russian Grain Union

Earlier it became known that the production of tractors in Russia collapsed by half. Thus, in October 2025, factories produced 388 tractors - 46.7% less than last year's figure.
