Roscosmos has announced the conclusion of a state contract with NPO Lavochkina for the development of a Russian lunar power plant. The project will be carried out from 2025 to 2036.
The state corporation emphasized that the project will be a key step towards creating a permanently functioning scientific station on the Moon, moving from one-off missions to a long-term research program. The power plant will provide energy for lunar rovers, observatories of the Russian lunar program, and infrastructure facilities of the International Lunar Research Station.
The project includes the development of spacecraft, ground-based experimental testing, flight tests, and the deployment of infrastructure on the Moon.
Creating its own lunar power plant will allow Russia to strengthen its position in space exploration and ensure the long-term operation of facilities on the surface of Earth's satellite.
