Kaspersky Lab has received documents authorizing it to conduct cybersecurity audits of ship computerized systems and networks. The corresponding certificate was issued by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS).
The press service of Kaspersky Lab explained that modern ships are equipped with digital systems that control the operation of engines, rudders, cartography, and navigation. However, cybercriminals can attack them, for example, by spoofing GPS signals to throw the ship off course, or by using ransomware. Malicious software can disable ship systems.
Maritime vessels are characterized by difficulties in updating software and intermittent internet access during voyages.
According to her, this is a new direction for the company. Receiving a certificate from RS confirms that Kaspersky Lab specialists have the necessary competencies and can ensure the protection of ships.
