Construction workers have begun laying the reinforcement for the first concrete at the Paks-2 nuclear power plant in Hungary, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said.
The first concrete will be poured on February 5. Preparations are moving faster than we planned, so we were able to start laying the reinforcement needed for the first concrete pouring not in January, but today.
Pouring the first concrete into the foundation of the fifth power unit will be an important milestone in the construction of the new nuclear power plant. According to the criteria of the International Atomic Energy Agency, after this operation, the facility will be considered a "nuclear power plant under construction."
The Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority has issued all the necessary permits for the pouring. The Paks-2 NPP project has been exempted from sanctions imposed by the European Union and the United States against Russia.
