Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant (UAZ) was the first in Russia to start working on adapting its power units to biofuel. The engines are also being modernized for gasoline with a 10% ethanol content.
The plant has begun testing 3MZ-409 engines and an improved version of 3MZ Pro to determine their compatibility with the new fuel and the necessary design changes.
The main reason is that Russia is preparing for the mass introduction of E10 fuel after the abolition of the excise tax on ethanol. However, many common engine models are still designed for E5 fuel.
If cars do not meet these requirements, owners may face problems (corrosion of the fuel system, overheating, detonation, as well as failure of injectors and fuel pumps).
Earlier www1.ru reported that UAZ cars will receive updated ZMZ Pro engines.
