Sovcomflot (SCF) has accepted the first Russian dual-fuel oil tanker of MR size - “Ivan Aivazovsky”. The vessel, named after the outstanding marine painter of the 19th century, was built at the Zvezda shipyard and is designed to transport petroleum products, including Arctic and ice routes.
The tanker has a deadweight of 49,800 tons, a length of 183 meters, a width of 32.2 meters and a draft of 13.4 meters. Its ice class 1B allows operation in difficult ice conditions.
The main innovation of “Ivan Aivazovsky” is a dual-fuel power plant capable of operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG), which significantly reduces emissions of harmful substances and complies with modern IMO and EEDI Phase III environmental standards.
This is the lead vessel of a new series, fully developed and built in Russia. All tankers in the series will sail under the flag of the Russian Federation, strengthening the country's technological sovereignty in maritime transportation of hydrocarbons.
