Russia has recorded an increase in fraud in car sales transactions that follow the "grandma scheme." However, they can be challenged in court, said lawyer Dmitry Grigoriadi.
According to him, such cases have already occurred in the Kuban, in the Ryazan region, in Moscow and the Moscow region.
In legal theory, there is no difference which transaction the court cancels: an apartment or a car. Any transaction made under the influence of deception (Article 179 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation) can be challenged.
About real estate fraud using the "grandma scheme"
Russians of retirement age sell real estate, and later claim that at the time of the transaction they were allegedly under the influence of fraudsters. Then the former owners of the apartment go to court and demand the annulment of the sale. Judges often side with the elderly. At the same time, the buyer is not returned the money, and the apartment again becomes the property of the seller.
