A new hub to expand air traffic between Russia and African countries was proposed by Alexey Buevich, Deputy Head of Rosaviatsiya.
Currently, most flights are operated to Egypt. The increase in air transportation to Africa is hampered by a shortage of wide-body airliners, which are used on flights to the Russian Far East and Southeast Asia.
[We need to] consider the possibility of creating an international air hub based at the airport of one of the African countries, for organizing transit air transportation and international transfer passenger traffic by a large base Russian air carrier or an alliance of Russian air carriers.
Kenya, the Seychelles, and Tanzania are among the most popular African countries among Russians with the fastest-growing tourist flow.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that the number of airlines in Russia will decrease naturally.
