Scrapping fee for gas-powered cars proposed to be abolished in Russia

The initiative was found in the implementation plan of the Energy Strategy until 2050

The possibility of abolishing the recycling fee for cars using gas as fuel is being discussed in Russia. The authorities want to make gas engine transport more popular. The proposal is contained in the implementation plan of the Energy Strategy until 2050.

The Ministry of Energy fully supports the establishment of benefits for such transport, at least for a certain period.
Representative of the Ministry of Energy

Representative of the "Reliable Partner" Association Dmitry Gusev noted that the share of gas engine transport in the country is only 1-2% out of 50 million cars. Analyst Freedom Finance Global Vladimir Chernov does not exclude that the measure proposed by the authorities to abolish the recycling fee for gas transport may be effective.

Currently, the recycling fee for gas-powered cars is calculated in the same way as for conventional ones. It is assumed that after the introduction of benefits, its share in the total number of transport may reach 5% due to imports of Asian cars.

One of the factors that may reduce the development of such transport in Russia is the uneven distribution of gas stations across the country and problems with car maintenance services.

Today in Russia, about 1 thousand stations provide services for refueling vehicles with methane. Compared to gasoline and diesel, this is a drop in the ocean.
Yuri Stankevich, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy
