AvtoVAZ explained what kind of gasoline should be used to fuel Lada cars. The company published advice on choosing fuel to dispel doubts among car owners.
Studies by automotive publications and the plant's own tests have shown that switching to 92-octane gasoline instead of 95-octane gasoline results in negligible savings, if any benefit at all. For example, in urban conditions, the consumption of 95-octane gasoline may even be lower than that of 92-octane gasoline. Although 92-octane gasoline may slightly reduce costs on the highway, this effect disappears when returning to the city.
This means that it is better to use the gasoline for which the car was designed, and most often it is 95-octane, AvtoVAZ experts explained. The use of low-octane fuel can negatively affect the engine, increasing the risk of detonation and reducing its service life, representatives of the plant emphasize.
VAZ employees also upset car enthusiasts who strive for maximum engine performance. The plant's tests showed that AI-98 and even AI-100 can be poured into old Lada models, but this will not give any performance: there will be no advantages in either dynamics or fuel consumption.
In conclusion, AvtoVAZ recommends that drivers follow the operating instructions and the recommendations of engineers.
For its part, the manufacturer lays a certain margin of safety in the fuel system and in the toxicity reduction system so that poor-quality fuel does not kill the engine or electronics. For confident engine starting at low temperatures, it is necessary to use «winter» gasoline with increased volatility.
