The Russian government, on the instructions of President Vladimir Putin, has provided funding for the project to remove the sunken floating dock PD-50 in the Murmansk Region. Funds from the federal budget have been allocated for the development of project documentation and the implementation of all necessary work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency.
The client is the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Murmansk Region. Work on the project started in 2025 and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. Currently, the technical task and draft state contract for pre-project studies and design and survey work are being developed. JSC "Lenmorniiproekt" will be the executor of the documentation.
The PD-50 dock, which sank in the Kola Bay in 2018, poses risks to navigation and the environment. In July 2025, regional authorities introduced a state of emergency due to the threat of leakage of fuel and lubricants into the waters of the bay.
PD-50 is one of the largest floating docks in the world, built in Sweden in 1980. It is 330 m long, 67 m wide, and has a lifting capacity of 80 thousand tons. The dock sank at the 82nd Ship Repair Plant in Roslyakovo on the night of October 30, 2018, when the aircraft carrier "Admiral Kuznetsov" was leaving it. One of the dock's cranes fell onto the deck of the ship, killing two people.
