«Курчатов» для флота: на базе Крыловского центра создаётся Национальный исследовательский центр судостроения

NRC will become the parent organization of the industry and will unite the scientific and design capacities of USC

A National Shipbuilding Research Center (NRC) named after Academician A. N. Krylov will appear in Russia, which will be formed on the basis of the Krylov State Research Center (KGNTs) Federal State Unitary Enterprise. This was announced by the company's General Director Dmitry Novikov, confirming the information previously announced by the Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Marine Board Nikolai Patrushev.

The new research center will become the parent organization of the industry, similar to the Kurchatov Institute in the nuclear industry and the N. E. Zhukovsky Institute in aviation. The creation of the NRC will ensure the integration of scientific, design, technological and personnel potential, as well as increase the efficiency of R&D management in shipbuilding.

The tasks of the NRC will include creating a scientific and technical reserve for the future development of the fleet, scientific support for the design and construction of ships, as well as developing project documentation for technically complex and specialized vessels.

A key area will be the formation of a unified shipbuilding design office, which will unite leading design bureaus: TsMKB Almaz, TsKB MT Rubin, SPMBM Malachite and other organizations that are part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC).

The first civilian project of the new center will be the development of a domestic gas tanker for the transportation of LNG along the Northern Sea Route. The vessel will have an ice class of Arc7, a length of about 305 meters, a width of 50 meters and an autonomy of navigation of up to 40 days. The crew will be up to 56 people, including temporary personnel for passing through the Suez Canal.
