The Moscow Zoo has expanded its online broadcasts, adding the ability to watch birds. Now, on the zoo.mos.ru website during zoo hours, you can see not only animals, but also the unique "Japanese Courtyard," which is home to three species of birds: red-crowned cranes, ocellated turkeys, and green peacocks.
According to the zoo, the female red-crowned crane is named Sunagawa, and her mate is named Koreets. These birds are known for their monogamy and form strong pairs. After they become parents, they take turns incubating the eggs for a month, and then jointly care for the chick.
In 2024, Sunagawa and Koreets had a crane chick, which, after growing up, was transferred to another zoo. In the summer of 2025, the couple became parents again, but the sex of the new chick remains a mystery. Zoologists try to minimize interference so as not to disturb the caring parents and their baby.
The online aviary broadcast project was launched at the Moscow Zoo in the fall of 2024.
