Turkey is preparing to commission the first power unit of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in 2026, according to the country's Minister of Energy, Alparslan Bayraktar.
We are actively investing in nuclear energy, building four nuclear reactors in Turkey together with Rosatom. We are very close to launching the first reactor of the Akkuyu NPP next year.
To meet Turkey's growing energy needs, at least 12 large reactors and the introduction of small modular units are necessary.
Akkuyu NPP will be a historic project for the country, built according to the Russian VVER generation III+ design. Each of the station's four power units will have a capacity of 1,200 MW.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced plans to launch the first reactor of the Akkuyu NPP in 2026.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that electricity generation at the first unit of the Akkuyu NPP will begin in 2026.
