A new X-band radar, developed by the Russian Space Systems (RKS) holding, which is part of Roscosmos, has successfully passed flight tests on an aircraft. The radar for the Kondor-FKA satellite will become a key element of future radar satellites.
We designed a radar model, tested the operability of its key components, and successfully conducted flight tests on an aircraft carrier.
«Kondors-FKA» can observe the Earth around the clock and in any weather, penetrating through clouds, which makes them indispensable for monitoring. These satellites are used to create accurate maps of the ice situation. This allows for efficient routing of ships along the Northern Sea Route, even in polar night conditions.
The new radar is based on an active phased array antenna. Currently, two Kondor-FKA satellites are functioning in space, and the launch of the third spacecraft, weighing 1050 kg, is scheduled for 2026.
The tests confirmed the high performance of the devices, laying the industrial technology for the production of space radar systems.
Earlier www1.ru reported that a wind-powered Mars rover was presented at the «Science 0+» festival.
