Nuclear scientists have installed a thrust farm (a welded structure that is part of the reactor shaft equipment) at power unit No. 1 of the El Dabaa NPP, which is being built on the northern coast of Egypt. This was reported in the press service of Rosatom.
For the first time in the history of construction of power units with VVER-1200 reactors, a unique technical solution was implemented - the integration of a thrust farm into an enlarged reinforcing block.
Thanks to this, the workers organized continuous installation of equipment for the core catcher and reactor plant. Construction is being carried out in compliance with safety and quality requirements, Rosatom emphasized.
Alexey Kononenko, Project Director for the construction of the El Dabaa NPP, stated that the team is working at a "good pace". Soon, employees will move on to the main event of 2025 - the installation of the reactor vessel at power unit No. 1, he added.
Rosatom is implementing a project to build the first NPP in Egypt. Its construction started in 2022.
The cost of the work is estimated at $30 billion, with 85% of this amount being financed by Russia through the issuance of a state loan to Egypt. The remaining 15% are funds from private investors.
Cairo will receive a loan from Moscow for a period of 13 years at 3% per annum. The first loan payments will begin in the fall of 2029.
