Fire tests of the first stage block of the Soyuz-5 rocket took place at the Roscosmos enterprise — at the Scientific Testing Center of the Rocket and Space Industry. This was reported in the corporation's press service.
Roscosmos noted that the block is equipped with an RD-171MV engine with a thrust of 800 tons, developed by NPO Energomash, using environmentally friendly fuel components — liquid oxygen and kerosene.
The interaction of the first stage systems and the engine has been checked. RD-171MV worked the required 160 seconds.
Soyuz-5 is a promising domestic medium-class launch vehicle with increased payload capacity. It is being developed for launching automatic spacecraft into near-Earth orbits as part of the Russian-Kazakh project "Baiterek".
The first stage block is equipped with the "Tsar Engine" RD-171MV — the most powerful liquid rocket engine in the world. With a weight of 10 tons, its thrust is 800 tons, and its power is comparable to a large power plant.
