Submarine Developer Implements New Project: Nuclear Submarine Tanker-Gas Carrier to be Created in Russia

The vessel will be integrated into the infrastructure of Arctic LNG projects

Russian President Vladimir Putin has supported a project to create an underwater gas carrier, according to the president of the Kurchatov Institute, Mikhail Kovalchuk.

Today this has become a reality, there is already a corresponding instruction from the president. The head of Gazprom and I appealed to the head of the country, and he actively supported us. We have full support, everything is moving very well. This could become a national solution to the transport issue.

The design of a nuclear submarine gas carrier for the transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) is being carried out by the Malachite Design Bureau, known for its submarine developments. The vessel will be integrated into the existing infrastructure of Arctic LNG projects.

The length of the new vessel is about 360 meters, and the width is about 70 meters. The gas carrier will reach a height of 30 meters, with a draft of 12-13 meters.

The total power of the propulsion engines is 90 MW, and the carrying capacity is 170-180 thousand cubic meters. At the same time, the vessel will be able to move under ice at a speed of 17 knots.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that USC will build almost 600 ships for Russia.
