Engineers of Russian Railways (RZD) have begun testing two ES105 Finist electric trains (the Russian analogue of the Lastochka) manufactured by Ural Locomotives in the Sverdlovsk Region. This was reported by the press service of the national carrier.
ES105 Finist is the first fully domestic dual-system electric train designed for operation on electrified tracks of both direct and alternating current.
Two Finists have started running in test mode on the Yekaterinburg — Druzhinino — Krasnoufimsk route. Druzhinino station is a junction station where the current changes. Experts are checking the operation of instruments and software (SW) during the transition from direct to alternating current.
Each electric train will travel at least 700 km. After the trial run, they will regularly run on the same route.
