The French Navy has published a photograph showing one of the republic's frigates escorting the Russian diesel-electric submarine (DES) B-261 Novorossiysk, Project 636.3. The domestic submarine was making the transition to Kronstadt.
The French Navy claims that the Russian submarine "surfaced" off the coast of Brittany in the Atlantic Ocean. According to another version, the submarine's crew allegedly planned to cross into the Black Sea through the closed Dardanelles and Bosporus straits.
The Novorossiysk submarine joined the Permanent Operational Unit of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea in September 2024.
"Novorossiysk" is the first in a series of six Project 636.3 cruisers built at the Admiralty Shipyards of the United Shipbuilding Corporation for the Black Sea Fleet. All submarines of the project are armed with Kalibr-PL cruise missiles.
Earlier www1.ru reported that a Russian swarm of drones will be controlled from a group of satellites.
