The All-Russian Research Geological Oil Institute (VNIGNI), Rosnedra's main organization for oil and gas, is launching a large-scale seismic exploration in the northern and central parts of Yakutia. The work will start this year as part of the second phase of the federal project "Geology. Revival of the Legend-2", said Pavel Melnikov, General Director of the Institute, at the "Trofimuk Readings" conference.
This year, a new federal project "Geology. Revival of the Legend-2" is starting - these are ten seismic exploration sites in the lower reaches of the Lena, in the very north, and two sites in central Yakutia
The project is being implemented on behalf of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia and is designed until 2030. Its goal is to expand the country's mineral resource base and increase the geological knowledge of promising territories. Seismic exploration will clarify the structure of the subsoil and identify new areas for possible oil and gas production.
The first program "Geology. Revival of the Legend" has already proven its effectiveness, opening up dozens of promising areas in Eastern Siberia and the Far East. The second phase of the project will be a logical continuation - with an emphasis on hard-to-reach northern regions, where the potential of hydrocarbon resources remains significant.
