The Yandex Maps team has increased the coverage area of online traffic light technology fivefold. Now, real-time traffic light signals are visible not only in the center but also in all districts of Moscow, including New Moscow.
The service now includes traffic lights at 2,500 intersections in the capital. To see the signal, simply build a route by car and start driving. The application warns with a sound if the driver is approaching a red light too quickly and signals a change to green.
Users can leave feedback on the operation of traffic lights: if the signal on the map differs from the real one, simply click on the traffic light and report the delay. The system will take the data into account and check the accuracy of the display.
The technology is implemented jointly with the Moscow Traffic Management Center. Maps and Navigator receive data from the city's Intelligent Transportation System, polling traffic lights every second and predicting the signal for 2–3 minutes ahead. The information is displayed directly on the route, in Dynamic Island, and on the locked smartphone screen.
