Cases of fraud have become more frequent in Russia, where fraudsters call citizens, posing as neighbors, and report an alleged replacement of the intercom in the building. The purpose of such calls is to obtain a four-digit code, which is supposedly needed to access the new lock system, but is actually used to hack accounts of information services.
The fraudsters create an appearance of credibility: they name fake full names and the number of the "master", explain that the door now opens with a code, and then ask the victim to name it under the pretext of registration. After the first contact, the scammers may contact the victim again, posing as regulators or supervisory authorities, scaring them with hacking of their personal account or a loan taken out.
If a person trusts the fraudsters, the scheme develops traditionally: they are forced to confirm the transaction, download malicious software, transfer funds, or provide remote access to the device.
Experts advise not to engage in conversation with strangers, to remember that official organizations never require codes from SMS or push notifications and do not collect information through neighbors.
