For thyroid surgery: new monopolar electrode patented at Chuvash State University

The development aims to improve the efficiency and safety of surgical interventions

In September, the Chuvash State University named after I. N. Ulyanov (ChSU) patented a monopolar electrode for operations on the thyroid and parathyroid glands. This was reported in the press service of the university.

The new development aims to improve the efficiency and safety of minimally invasive surgical interventions.

A monopolar electrode is used in surgery for coagulation and dissection of tissues due to high-frequency current. The new technology reduces the power of thermal exposure during surgery. This reduces the risk of burning surrounding tissues, especially blood vessels and nerves.

Monitoring the conductivity of nerve structures will allow predicting the postoperative function of the larynx, minimizing the risk of complications due to nerve damage. The use of this instrument ensures more delicate operations.

The use of already known instruments is associated with the presence of specific complications — electrical burn injuries, leading to serious consequences. The technical result of the utility model is the reduction and prevention of (such) complications during open surgery on the thyroid and parathyroid glands and endoscopic surgery.

Earlier www1.ru reported that in Russia they learned to speed up thyroid surgery with the help of a surgical instrument.
