Developers from South Ural State University are the first in Russia to patent an application that scans road traffic and helps drivers get into the "green wave," i.e., not stop at traffic lights. The application has already been successfully tested in Magnitogorsk, and now it is Chelyabinsk's turn, where tests are being conducted on the city's main traffic artery - Lenin Avenue.
Our application will help increase the overall smoothness of traffic, even if only one in ten drivers uses it
The system uses data from street surveillance cameras as a sensor network and analyzes in real time what is happening at intersections, advising the driver on the best speed to travel to get through the route without stopping.
Preliminary calculations show that driving through the "green corridor" saves 15 to 20% of fuel and, accordingly, reduces emissions into the atmosphere.
