A promising tank support fighting vehicle (BMPT) may appear on the basis of the T-14 Armata tank. This was announced by Alexander Potapov, General Director of the Uralvagonzavod concern (UVZ, part of Rostec).
According to him, the company is working on the development of tank support fighting vehicles.
A promising platform for a new generation BMPT may be the heavy infantry fighting vehicle T-15 of the family of tracked vehicles on the Armata platform.
A different module can be installed on a heavy infantry fighting vehicle, and this vehicle can be used in a different configuration – a tank support fighting vehicle, Potapov added.
As of 2025, the Armata has not appeared in the troops as a replacement for the past generation of combat vehicles T-72, T-80 and T-90. Journalists stated that in the current conditions, it is at least irrational to rearm the army with a new tank model.
