Камчатку тряхнуло: землетрясение магнитудой до 7,7 произошло у побережья полуострова, ожидается цунами

Residents are advised to stay away from the coast

An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 occurred on September 13 in the Pacific Ocean off the eastern coast of Kamchatka. Underground tremors were felt by residents of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and nearby settlements, according to the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to scientists, the epicenter was located 123 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the focus was at a depth of about 47 kilometers. The intensity of the tremors in the city reached six points. Information about destruction and casualties has not been received. In turn, the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team KVERT estimated the magnitude of the tremors at 7.7.

Governor Vladimir Solodov said that after the aftershock, a check of social facilities and housing stock began. All emergency services in the region have been put on high alert.

The Kamchatka Tsunami Warning Center reported a risk of waves approaching the coast. According to calculations, their height will be up to 37 centimeters in the Ust-Kamchatsky district, up to 26 centimeters in the Aleutsky district, and up to 9 centimeters in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. In some areas — in the area of Cape Mayachny and Khalaktyrsky beach — the waves can reach 1.2 meters. The Ministry of Emergency Situations recommended that residents move away from the coast and not try to observe the tsunami.

Ships off the coast are ordered to go out into the ocean beyond the 50-meter isobath and keep a course perpendicular to the coastline.

Footage appeared on social networks from a volcano in the Vilyuchinsk area, where scientists felt tremors immediately after the helicopter landed. The recording shows them sharing their impressions of the tremors.
