"Oreshnik" missile turned out to be lighter than "Yars": it will fly to the target from near space

Each warhead of the MRBM has six striking elements

The Russian medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) "Oreshnik" allows you to keep any point in Europe under control. The key characteristics of the newest system were revealed by independent military analyst Alexander Alesin.

He drew attention to the fact that the "Oreshnik" missile is much lighter than the projectile of the "Yars" strategic missile system. The MRBM includes a package of warheads, each of which has its own guidance system and engine.

Thus, the launch of "Oreshnik" may be equivalent to the launch of six missiles. This makes it possible to hit sufficiently large areas.

An equally important advantage of "Oreshnik" is hypersonic speed. Alesin cited as an example the reasoning of the American media, who were discussing the idea of what would happen if a tungsten structure resembling a sub-caliber projectile were dropped from near space.

Then it was said that such a projectile, when accelerated, acquires such kinetic energy that there is no need to have explosives on board.

In general, each warhead of "Oreshnik" has six such striking elements. In total, there are 36.

It is known from open sources that the RS-24 "Yars" missile system has a length of 17.8 m without a warhead, a diameter of 1.86 m and a launch weight of 46 tons, operating on solid mixed fuel.
