The Engineering Chemical-Technological Center (ECTC) at Tomsk State University (TSU) has launched the production of high-purity hydrogen bromide (HBr). The substance is critical for the Russian microelectronic industry. The project was implemented by order of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
The production is located in Tomsk. It took specialists a year and a half to develop the technology and launch the production line. The purity of the produced hydrogen bromide reaches 99.999% (5N), which meets the highest requirements of microelectronics.
The production line is designed for an annual output of 650 kg of the substance, but its capacity can be increased to fully meet the needs of the domestic market and reduce dependence on imports. A special task was the development of a quality analytical control system unique to Russia. Young specialists at the Faculty of Chemistry of TSU created and certified methods for determining trace impurities.
The project was implemented as part of the program for the development of electronic engineering in Russia until 2030. The key consumers of the products will be domestic enterprises, including JSC "Mikron", JSC "OKB Planeta" and others.
The ECTC specializes in scaling up scientific developments and import substitution. The launch of hydrogen bromide production is part of a broader program of the center to create a domestic line of ultra-pure chemistry for high-tech industries.
