Магнитные бури не влияют на здоровье и самочувствие, заявили в Институте солнечно-земной физики СО РАН

People mistakenly associate their condition with solar activity

Senior Researcher at the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics (ISTP) SB RAS, Professor of ISU Sergey Yazev stated that there is no scientific evidence of a link between the deterioration of human well-being and magnetic storms.

Yazev noted that people sometimes associate their condition with solar activity, although in reality it does not depend on it.

The scientist added that the question of why some people feel better during solar storms remains interesting, but this has not yet been scientifically confirmed.

Currently, there are no magnetic storms on Earth: solar activity is extremely low, strong and moderate flares are not recorded, and only six small groups of spots are observed on the solar disk.

Decrease in solar activity

Compared to last year, solar activity has significantly decreased this year: the international relative number of sunspots on August 19, 2025 was 72, while on the same day in 2024 it reached 225. At the same time, the Earth is under the influence of a solar wind flow from a coronal hole, which may cause disturbance of the magnetosphere in the coming days.
