Sales of used cars in Russia increased by 21.4% in July compared to June, amounting to 567.2 thousand vehicles. In annual terms, the market also showed growth — by 3.8%, which was the best result in the last nine months, according to Avtostat.
Lada remains the leader in the secondary market (139.2 thousand vehicles, +4.6% year-on-year), followed by Toyota (58.4 thousand, +4.3%) and KIA (33.1 thousand, +1.8%). Hyundai (+2.6%) and Nissan (–3.2%) are also in the top 5. The most popular models remain VAZ-2114, Hyundai Solaris, and KIA Rio.
Experts explain the growth by the combined influence of factors: a decrease in the key rate of the Central Bank and interest rates on car loans, pent-up demand, a revival in sales of new cars, a strengthening of the ruble, and a decrease in prices for used cars — by an average of 8–10%. At the same time, "fresh" Chinese models are losing value the fastest, while popular European cars retain their value.
According to dealers' forecasts, the market may show further growth in August, although opinions differ: from +18% to a decrease relative to July records.
