Экологичный способ переработки пластика разработали в Кабардино-Балкарии

The technology performs thermal decomposition of polymers in a closed system and releases a large amount of energy

Scientists from the Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H. M. Berbekov (KBSU) have created a new method for recycling plastic, which allows obtaining environmentally friendly solid fuel from it.

When polymeric materials are burned in conditions of oxygen deficiency, toxic products of incomplete combustion are formed — carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and other harmful compounds. In this regard, university scientists have developed an alternative method for recycling plastic waste, which combines the solution of two urgent problems at once: plastic disposal and fuel production.

The technology is based on the thermal decomposition of crushed plastic in a closed system. This process is carried out using nitrate-alkaline oxidative melts — specialized molten salts. They not only accelerate the decomposition process, but also effectively prevent the formation of toxic substances, allowing plastic to be disposed of with a high energy yield.
