The aircraft were supplied as part of cooperation between Belarus and the Russian Federation to enhance the capabilities of the Air Force in ensuring the security of the republic in the airspace.

Characteristics of the Su-30SM2

Like the Su-35S, the aircraft are equipped with the most "long-range" N035 Irbis-E airborne radars based on a passive phased array antenna with a peak power of 20 kW. The radars are capable of detecting targets with an RCS of 0.1 (corresponding to U/RGM-109E Tomahawk Block IV cruise missiles) sq. m in the forward hemisphere at a distance of 160 km against the background of airspace and 135-145 km against the background of the ground.

The Su-30SM2s are adapted to use the latest lightweight high-maneuverability air-to-air missiles with a long range (up to 180 km) R-77M.
